The Ogg container carrying video — in practice Theora with Vorbis sound, the free-codec pairing that HTML5 video launched with before WebM and H.264 divided the world between them. Send it for .ogv files; RFC 5334 split video/ogg and audio/ogg off from the older catch-all application/ogg precisely so players could tell what they were getting. The container is still every-page-starts-with-OggS underneath, the same signature as its audio sibling. Mostly a legacy type now, but old media libraries are full of it.

.ogv exists so that .ogg could keep meaning audio.
