MPEG video
video/mpeg
One of the original media types from RFC 2046, back when video on the internet meant MPEG-1 and the whole registry fit on a page. It covers MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 streams — the .mpg files of CD-ROMs and the transport streams of DVB — but not MP4, which is video/mp4 despite the family name. No signature entry here because MPEG has several stream flavors with different opening codes: program streams start with the pack header 00 00 01 ba, elementary video streams with 00 00 01 b3, so no single fixed sequence covers the type.
.mpg and .mpeg are the same thing; .m1v and .m2v mark video-only elementary streams.
